![]() Getting ThereLamu has been at all times a destination for independent travellers and individual tourists.
Air via NairobiInternational flights arrive in Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. KLM and Kenya Airways offer a night flight from Amsterdam, so you can catch the flight to Lamu on the same day. Flying from Europe via Nairobi, there are domestic airlines that take you to Lamu. The best connecting flight is the one offered by the domestic airline Fly 540 that leaves from Jomo Kenyatta Airport Domestic Terminal Unit 3 and makes a short stopover in Malindi. Airkenya and Safarilink offer daily afternoon flights between Lamu and Wilson Airport in Nairobi. In any case, be sure to book your ticket with the regional airlines well in advance in order to avoid not getting a flight. Road via Mombasa/MalindiTravelling on African streets is always an adventure. Starting from Malindi or Mombasa by bus or shared taxi (Matatu), the journey can take up to eight hours and the last 60 miles are on a bumpy dusty road. The road leads to Mokowe jetty and your journey will then continue by boat.
